This Year's Model Updates:

More power for the 4.7-liter V8 and three new trim levels (SE, Sport and Overland) are on tap for this year. Also, several important safety and convenience options such as side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitoring system and automatic windshield wipers debut this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

  • Year older...no problems - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had my Jeep for nearly a year now without a single problem. Its my third Jeep product and by far the best. The ONLY down side to the current Jeep line is the blandness of the dash. If more of the brushed aluminum was used throughout (rather than just around the radio), itd be a better lookin interior.

  • Love My Jeep! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I own a 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited Edition with probably all the bells and whistles of the Overland Edition. I have the POWERFUL 4.7L High Output V8 engine that literally throws passengers heads back when you punch the gas. I have the Quadra Drive 4WD system with 3 well placed skid plates in the front, middle, and rear of my Jeep and I am able to go most anywhere I want to whenever I go onto the trails. Yes I said trails, dont be fooled, just cause I have leather and heated 10 way power seats with dual climate control and every creature comfort possible in the cabin, as well as an amazing sound system, I can still take my Jeep out on the weekend and tear up the trails.

  • Poor Control - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased mine brand new and have had nothing but problems..Im only at 18,000 miles and am ready to dump it. The steering is very poor, stability and the Tire Pressure Monitering sucks..I have a loaded one w/on board computer, etc..I must have been loaded when I bought this as Im very disappointed with its performance. The lights flash on and off ..I could go on forever...

  • Go Anywhere Do Anything... Overland - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is our second Grand and it by far is the best product yet. The HO engine can now only be surpassed by the new 2005 Hemi. It is a superb people mover and safe when it comes to moving little ones as well. I have changed the front rotors at 30000 and all is fine. Jeep has never put a large enough front rotor on any Grand. This is still managable. Love the body style and think it is superior to the newer 2005.

  • Poor design on window motor - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Love everything about this SUV except the issue with the window motor. Replaced the window motor on the drivers side at 60,000 miles; back passenger left side at 75,000 miles; sunroof motor went out at 100,000 miles, now the back passenger right side just went out at 130,000 miles. Refuse to have it repaired at $350, so Im currently looking to trade for a new car. Will not purchased a Jeep because of the window motor issues. With all the complaints about this problem, you would think Jeep would have recalled the cars to correct the problem. In the long run, they are losing a great deal of business by using choosing to look the other way.

this is a fantastic SUV. after driving an explorer XLT for a year my overland feels like a jag. handles well, on the test drive took it off roading and it felt great. gravel or dirt roads you wont even notice. i am excited to drive everywhere now.

  • I love this SUV - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just bought this 2002 Jeep Laredo and love it. It is very comfortable and easy to drive. Looking forward to winter to see how good the four wheel drive is in snow and ice. Had a 94 Blazer and hated every minute I owned it and was very leery of another SUV. The Laredo has turned me around. Gas mileage is a pleasant surprise. If you want comfort and functionality-get a Jeep.

  • Unreliable - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Since my purchase of the Grand Cherokee, I have experienced multiple suspension and steering problems. After the amount of repairs I have incurred in just 9 months, I will most certainly never purchase another Jeep.

  • TERRIBLE DO not NOT not buy this car! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Unless you have boatloads of money you should not buy this car. Every problem I have read about is true. I got it at a good price, cheaper than most suvs, looks better than most, with 85k. Rust and bubbles on roof, gas cap, window failure, have to use my head to keep hood up, brake light on and off, interior pieces have come off (rubber around door), leather seats are like a slip cover, mysterious coolant leak, burnt smell, turning corners acceleration fails than jumps moments later without pushing it, engine light is now blinking, paid 160 to tow from 95 (the major highway when this occurred) and after reading everything I will not get it fixed and pray I will break even, still owe 2k.

Luxurius, very powerfull and fun to drive. Comfortable on very long drive (19 hours), as well as very responsive and confident driving in the city. I feel very safe and in control when driving my Jeep. I am very satisfied with it so far in every aspect.
